Building an e-commerce website

I am looking at building a website to buy products from.

Just early stages but I was wondering if there were programs that can help you build websites or if I am just kidding myself.

Thoughts?

    depends on your budget

    the cheapest way would be to get a paypal merchant account and let them do the financial transaction side of it all.

    There are plenty. I often see "build your own webstore" packages in stores for a reasonable price. There are also quite a few free packages, but I don't know if I would recommend them. My main issue with them is that I wouldn't know who to blame when something went wrong in my store. The free packages often require some knowledge on webscripting too.

    Nonetheless, there is some very good free software out there. I hear this one is pretty good. http://www.oscommerce.com/

    Or you could do it the way RJ suggested.
