Melbourne not to kick off 2006 season

For the first time since 1996 Austrailla wont be the first grand prix of the season. It will take place on 2nd April, 4 days after the closing ceremony of the commonwealth games.

Its been moved so the race and the commonwealth games wont clash

So who will be hosting the opening race? Malaysia?

  • Stoddart has hinted at Malaysia..
  • I heard Ron Walker on the radio driving home last night that Bahrain will be the first GP.

I was really hoping it would be the last GP, say after Japan.

Adelaide used to be the last GP, and after the race the mechanics would meet the crowd outside the pits and sell the shirts of their backs to the highest bidder. Real Party Atmosphere...:) Unlike Melbourne
  • At least we might get to see a few cars that have actually been sorted, and maybe a new TOIT machine for once.
  • Newspaper reports from KL that Sepang is proposing to FIA be the opener.
