Canada!

What will it bring for us?

Albers his race column

Column: Montreal is really great

I'm in Montreal while writing this column. What a great city, really superb! Everyone breathes Formula 1 here! The circuit itself is really cool because of the great location. Something we haven't got in Europe.

The race in Canada will be interesting. I am hoping to finish the race in front of the Jordan drivers this time. We will bring a few new aerodynamic parts for the car which should help. The circuit doesn't need much drag so I think we can get closer to the other teams.

Earlier this week I checked out the track, since I never raced here before, by jogging around it and on Thursday I walked the track with my engineers to check out the details of the kerbs etcetera.

Let's wait and see what will happen here in Montreal!

We got new parts!!!!!;)

  • Had to be a low fuel run.
  • So much for the speed trap theory. 1st practice.

    CA 305 kph
    PF 306 kph
    Fisichella 330 kph
    Scott Speed 318 kph

Pray for Tropical Storm Arlene to fast track herself to Montreal. This is very painful to watch. We are consistantly 5 sec slower and no real improvement to show with the new chassis during races. ! We would be better off contracting with Dallara to build a new chassis for us. Outsourcing does work.
  • Have faith!

  • Pat 1:18,115 !!!!! :D :o

    Where is everybody ???

  • P F 1.18.115

    K man 1.18.234

    plus Albers faster than Montiero!

See - just a little faith people.

    LAND OF OPPORTUNITY

    MONTREAL, CANADA, June 10, 2005

Minardi F1 Team drivers Patrick Friesacher and Christijan Albers may have experienced Montreal’s demanding Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the first time today, but they made the most of the opportunity. Both men spent the morning session acclimatising to the newly resurfaced track, which places a premium on effective braking and good traction out of corners. By the afternoon session, however, they had clearly begun to get to grips with the circuit, as their lap times tumbled steadily. Apart from working on chassis balance, Friesacher and Albers were also able to carry out tyre evaluation work, and concluded the day’s activities with extended, race-simulation runs.

    PATRICK FRIESACHER
    Position: 19
    Time: 1 min 18.115 secs Chassis: PS05/02
“I was a little bit disappointed in the first session, as I lost my last run with a clutch-related problem, but then the second session was quite good. We improved a lot in that session, in part at least because of the tyres, and were able to find a good balance for the car. I think we can improve further tomorrow, however, so I feel it could be a good weekend for us”.

    CHRISTIJAN ALBERS
    Position: 21
    Time: 1 min 18.463 secs Chassis: PS05/01
“We had a bit of a slow start in the morning, but we came back this afternoon. We have been improving with each run, and although we are still not completely satisfied with all aspects of the car’s behaviour, we’ve still got two more practice sessions tomorrow to work on it. All things being considered, I think we did a reasonable time today”.

PAUL STODDART, Team Principal, Minardi Cosworth

“Considering the resurfacing of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and the fact the track was always going to be ‘green’ on the first day of the race weekend, it’s pleasing to be competitive with the Jordans and within two-tenths of a second of one of the Red Bulls. All in all, today’s sessions went well, especially considering neither Christijan nor Patrick has competed here before. We look forward to making further progress tomorrow in preparation for Sunday’s race”.
    18 C. Klien Red Bull 1:17.922 26
    19 P. Friesacher Minardi 1:18.115 25
    20 N. Karthikeyan Jordan 1:18.234 28
    21 C. Albers Minardi 1:18.463 22

    23 S. Speed Red Bull 1:19.270 15
    Not bad !!
  • I am happy thus far. We've showed up with new front wing end plates that mirror basically what the rest of the grid made for Canada. Wind tunnel time is evident.

Narain facing the wrong way half of the time and Monti off the pace as usual... should be an interesting weekend.
  • Where's everybody???

    Yesterday Minardi was great!
Patrick less than 1 second slower than Schumacher! As fast as Red Bull, better than Jordan, less than 3 seconds slower than Alonso.

    Bravi bravi bravi Faenza boys!
  • Unfortunately I've just seen the stint times for Narain/Pat. Narain had one stint in which he ran 18's consistently. Pat managed just 20's. Hopefully this isn't an indication of overall pace but rather a difference in strategy or something along those lines..
  • Anybody got pics of the new FWEP's?
  • Eh I don't feel like hosting them. Basically the same design minus the flip up piece on front of the tyre.
  • 3rd session: we sucked!! 2 sec behind the Jordans.

4th session: improvement! we were stil llast, but Pat was 0,003 sec behind Monteiro!!!!!

The Red Bulls are slow as well.
This circuit demands high topspeed and isn't so much about the aero.
This means that the Cosworth engine is lacking power compared to the other teams.
Red Bull will get a 30hp increase at Indy, but we're stuck with this engine for the rest of the season anf for 2006 as well!!!!!:(
  • Anybody got pics of the new FWEP's?
I've got a pic of the whole car:

  • Where's everybody???
    I was/am here.
  • Great lap by Albers - GREAT lap! :D
  • On dutch telly, they are saying it is probably the best qualifying lap he drove this season. He is happy with it! He is a 'blije pik' ;)
  • Holy crap! Albers has 2 whole rows behind him! :)
  • Great lap Albers nice to get ahead of the red Bull! Hope Fries is on a different stratagy.
  • Albers was brilliant out there! However, he must be due for an early pitstop. I just can't see Albers being so fast without being quite light, especially considering how much slower Pat was in the qualifying. Pat has been ahead of Albers in every session this weekend except for the qualifying.

Still, great lap and nice to see not only the Jordans, but Klien as well having his ass handed to him.
  • What a amazing lap from Albers!!!
Whe have a new Alonso on owher team:P
He had some problems in practice but the team had fixed it before quali and he had totally new tires;)
I think Friesacher is on a 2 stop or maybe his lap was just crap, it was not looking good at all, i think Friesacher is driving to nerverse and aggresive, he did some mistakes but i hope he is just heavy!
Have you seen the reactions of the team after Albers his lap:o:o, what a great feeling it must be for the guys
  • Bravo Chris!!! Great lap.

Pat seems to be having serious handling problems with his car.

M$ and Button seem to be carrying low fuel !!!!!!
    The Williamses were crap!
  • What was the garage reaction like?

We don't get qualifying down here so I was watching the live timing stream on the net.
