Michelin trouble in first practice

News
18 June 2005

For most of the session the fans at Indianapolis could only see the teams that are running on Bridgestone tyres. Michelin is still investigating the problem that caused Ralf Schumacher and Ricardo Zonta to crash on Friday. Montoya went out for only four laps but did set the fastest lap time.

The talks in the paddock are still about the enormous crash of Ralf Schumacher. The Toyota driver crashed heavily after his left rear tyre failed on him in the final corner at Indianapolis. He was send to the hospital for a check and will be replaced for the rest of the weekend by Toyota driver Ricardo Zonta. Ralf did join the team on Saturday at the track though.

Thus Michelin wanted to have more time to investigate their problems and kept the teams inside at the start of the session. Only eight drivers set a timed lap. Only two of them on Michelin tyres.

Also read on grandprix.com that Michelin may be flying in new tyres from France. Michelin problems this weekend may mean points for Minardi though.

  • Any one watching Le Mans? Michelin seem to be having a problem with left rear tires there on the Corvette.
