2008 FORZAMINARDI.COM CHALLENGE - ROUND 13 - BEL (5-7 SEP 2008)

2008 FORZAMINARDI CHALLENGE: RULES:

1.0 Predict the following exactly and gain points each round:
a. Pole getter - 2 point (pole getter is defined as the one who is on pole
when the race is started)
b. Winner of GP - 4 points
c. Second in GP - 3 points
d. Third in GP - 2 points
e. Fourth in GP - 1 point
f. 1st car out after the race has started under the green lights whether
through DNF or DNS (through stalling for eg.) or through DQ (by black flag
for eg.) - 1 point (point given even if DQ is appealed)
g. Name the ex-minardi driver who finishes in the highest
position in the race amongst all ex-minardi drivers - 2 points

All predictions above must be EXACTLY correct. Should any driver pull out
before the race weekend, his replacement is not automatically substituted in
the bets...the bettors MUST exercise the edit right as provided in clause 6
two days before race day (e.g. if race day is on Sunday, final edit right is
day-stamp of post Friday).

2.0 Prize for the winner with most points at end of season:
a. the glory of being the season's Forzaminardi.com champion...plus whatever additional prize R-J
or the others may want to throw in. :-)

3.0 The organiser is manlio27.

4.0 The qualifying and race results first published by formula1.com will be
used to judge the bets placed. No appeal to organiser's decision which is
final.

5.0 If the organiser cannot make a decision, he will consult R-J and/or
Minardi4eva and/or FactyCrab who shall act as referees.

6.0. All bets must be submitted in the above 1.0 a to g order and must be
submitted before the first quali session start. Any bets submitted after the
first quali starts will be invalid. All bets MUST be in by before the first
quali but no editing of any bets placed can be done after the end of friday
practices (or in the case of Monaco after Thursday's practices). This is
because when a post is edited, there is no time stated when such edits have
been done. it just says which date the edit was done.

7.0 DQ means disqualification during the race. so any disqualification
resulting from not starting the race does not fall under this description of
DQ.

8.0 Any additional rules can be added to aid clarity but not to change the
bets format and the points as and when deemed neccessary.

9.0 The referees of this 2008 ForzaMinardi Challenge are FactyCrab, manlio27,
Forzaminardi and Minardi4eva (if Forza, Facty and 4Eva agree). A majority decision
from these 4 is required to settle any dispute. if the dispute concerns the
referee's bet, then the other 3 referee must adjudicate and arrive at a majority
decision.

    awesome, stan!

    good on yer too, jumpey!

looks like kimi's gonna go rallying next year surely...
  • The table is correct, Facty!
Shit, in the last 2 laps I went from 9 to 0 points! I would be on top again, now I'm out just like Kimi!
Thrilling race, though, and Spa fantastic as usual, we saw overtakings, like in the dear old times!
Now Ferrari will have to impose a choice on Kimi, and go for Felipe! It's true Kimi came back from -16 to +1 in the last two races last year, but these things do not happen often........Kimi was rally dominator in Spa, it's his track, shame rain came in the last 5 minutes and he lost his mind (he had even recouped the leadership after the incident between Clewlis and Nico!!!!). See what happens next week in Monza, where Clewlis will have to go with the same engine, while both Felipe and Kimi will be on brand new power.
  • Yes Kimi losing his mind there really screwed my points too. A fantastic race though. Rain sure does spice things up.
  • Massa wins, Hamilton gets a 25 second penalty for cutting of the bus stop chicane. When Lewis started overtaking Kimi he was inches away from him. What do they want him to do? Drop a 10 meter gap first before he gives it a another go?

Most of my points down the drain. Damn Ferrari International Assistance.

  • what a load of bollocks! very unlucky Stan
  • yeah but would Hamilton have been able to pass Kimi if he had gone round the bus stop. Its in the rules. So he's been rightfully punished.

We shall never know. Although Lewis gained ground on Raikkonen fast.

I do know that Lewis lifted his foot of the pedal to let Raikkonen past. And then he overtook him again. I thought the Stewarts allowed for such a maneuver so drivers could avoid punishment. Effectively making this an exception to the rule.

But apparently they can decide to ignore their own exceptions. Causing confusion and lowering the credibility of their sport. Bottom line, if you create a "rule" follow it. Can anyone tell where the limits to this are?

    [Edited on 7-9-08 by Stan]
  • he was still using momentum gained from missing the chicane and similar instances have happened in other formulas including GP2 when it was F3000 so its consistant.

Don't forget this is Hamilton who overtook the safety car in gp2.

    [Edited on 7-9-08 by Minardifan2002]
  • Hamilton hardly gained any advantage, he even slowed down to get behind Raikkonen again. Even though he was next to (if not past) Raikkonen in the chicane. You act like he made up 4 seconds by cutting off the chicane. The stewarts should have read the race and at most have given Hamilton a warning for not taking the designated route (even though he had no choice).

It's like a football game during which the referee promises you he won't give you a yellow card if you apologize to another player. And then after the game he gives you a red one because he didn't like the way you did it.
  • are we going to rearrange the points after the penalty? if yes i scored incredibly well :P

the above publication is just for the fun of it...as according to rule 4.0 the results to be used is what F1.com FIRST publishes.

But if (B) above is used, there are substantial changes, not least i would be 2 points ahead of stan instead of 13 points behind him.

    :-(

however as forzaminardi has asked for it, manlio needs to make a decision as a neutral referee (since either way does not affect him) to decide whether (A) above is applied or (B) above is applied.
  • I hope you choose B of course!

For Monza my predictions are as follws:
    Pole: Massa
    1st: Massa
    2nd: Kimi
    3rd: Kubica
    4th: Alonso
    Best ex Minardi: Alonso
    1st out: Hamilton
  • I'd have to agree with you Stan but France might have affected the stewards decision. he skipped a chicane there so might have thought he hadn't learned his lesson.

I prefer natural sound now. A whole weekend of cars with no commentry.
  • B would be the only right decision to make. It's a lottery any way you look at it. It's only a game.

    [Edited on 9-9-08 by Stan]

    [Edited on 9-9-08 by Stan]
  • Facty, it is not fully correct to say that the decision does not affect me, as choosing A I would be 16 points down the top, while choosing B the gap would be only 12.

Anyway, as a lawyer, I try to make an impartial interpretation of the rule, and my choice can only be B.
This is because, even though the rule 4.0 speaks about the results "first published on formula1.com", this cannot mean that whatever results (even totally wrong by a simple mistake) can be considered only because published "first". Take the example of the Brazilian GP 2003, where Raikkonen won when the race was interrupted, but it was then cleared that Fisichella was already leading two laps before the stop and the win was awarded to him: in case of mistake, either by the stewards or by F1.com, we have anyway to consider the final omologated result. And I do not see why the same should not occur in case of disqualification.
The rule will be corrected for next year, but even now (despite the letter of rule 4.0) I prefer to apply such interpretation, as it seems to me more correct, otherwise our table would be somehow "false".

I would have taken the same decision even if it had been more convenient for me to choose option A, I hope none of you to think that I wanted to take advantage of my position as "organizer" to gain 4 points over the leader.
And, Stan, I'm really sorry as you were f...ing unlucky this time!

Of course, should McLaren's appeal win, the original result will be reinstated.

    [Edited on 9-9-08 by manlio27]
  • Seeing I'm going to be away from a computer for the rest od the week my predictions for Monza are as follows

    Pole: Massa
    1st: Massa
    2nd: Hamilton
    3rd: Kubica
    4th: Heikki
    1st out: Vettel
    Best ex MInardi: Alonso.

Please note my above predictions are subject to change by McLaren depending on whether they take offence at me following the rules or indeed they just happen not to like the font used.:)
  • Pole: Massa
    1st: Massa
    2nd: Hamilton
    3rd: Kubica
    4th: Heikki
    1st out: Coulthardt
    Best ex MInardi: Alonso.

I think Kimi will be told to take a back
seat for the rest of the year
