where are the last F1 Minardi´s??

Dear all,

I am just a new user on this website - thanks for the people who have made this possible. What impressed me with Minardi is that so many good drivers have started their career there. Second, with the money they had they were achieving good results - many people just forget that Jaguar F1 had much more funds available but not always better results. Third, and probably the most interesting - I regard Minardi / Paul Stoddard as pioneers in F1 - why? It was them who proposed to cut test driving, it was them who also supported a limited annual budget etc - the people of toyota, honda, renault, bridgestone should have listened to them - but instead they voted at the time against minardi. With the consequences we have now...

Now to my question: Where are the last Minardi cars from the 2004/2005 season? Does Mr Minardi have some? Or do they belong to a private collector? Is there currently one for sale? By the way, there is an 2001 F1 Arrows with new engine etc for about 180,000€..so a Minardi shouldnt be much more..
So if one of us wins the lotterie - we make a small minardi revival - all we need now is the right car :)

From the looks - the 2004 minardi was one of teh best looking..

It would be great to see one of their latest cars driving again..
Let the legend continue !

regards,

  • hi there new boy! from what I know Paul Stoddart owned all the Minardis post 2001 but lots of them were sold at a huge warehouse auction just after he passed the team on to red bull.

does anyone else have any input on this?
  • Hello Administrator,

Thanks for your answer..I see you are located in Bath..nice little town..I live across the channel..

Yes- the question is really interesting - has anybody been at this event?

It somehow proves that at least one the 2005 Minardis is still doing fine..unfortunately my Italian is not so good :(

Does anybody know which price the Minardis achieved during the auction? - I mean for the newer models..1980´s F1 cars are usually the "cheapest"...

    thanks !

  • Well, the 2005 Minardi (aka PS05) were part of the contract with redbull so I think they could still be in Faenza.

The car in the video is actually a Minardi PS04B with 2005-livery. Those cars still belong to Paul Stoddart (I can proove it if you want).

The auction back in 2005 sold like a dozen cars. As far as i remember:
    (1) 5 or 6 Arrows A23 aka Minardi PS04A (with "our" 2003 livery)
    (2) some PS01 ( I guess 3), some with the 2002-livery
    (3) the Original-BAR-Car (the red an white one, not the blue one)

I somewhere have pictures from that auction. I will look it up as soon as possible.

Don't know what the price was, I somewere read the PS05 would be worth about 7.5 Mio $ (when it was new).

  • Hello Dontstop,

Thanks for the answers..Yes I would appreciate any more info you have for us on this subject.

Do we know how many chassis/cars Minardi built in 2004/2005 ? I know that the bigger teams had about 5-6 cars always running at the same time - for Ferrari two cars were racing while sometimes at the same time somebody was testing new parts..ridiculoius money burning systen they had then at this time.

Do we know what Paul Stoddard is doing today? Has he ever tried to let the cars run again? At the video link we dont see Paul Stoddard & as it was made in Mugello I assume that the car is still located somewhere around Italy. They would probably not have flown in the car from the last corner of the world..

    Thanks guys:)

  • Well, I found the images (I have edited them back than so there is no URL on it). It have for sure been some PS01 and PS04A which were sold.

Those cars were "rolling chasis only", so no engine.

I believe I read that all the Arrows A23 were sold. At least three (probably four) were sold to Super Aguri who customed them and named them Super Aguri SA05. One was sold to a company where you can lend old f1 cars for a certain money ( forgot the name, but there was for shure a A23 on the list). All those cars belong to the german company who bought the 'rest' of Super Aguri in 2008.

I am quite shure there also were one or even two BAR-cars from late 1998 (/ pre 1999 Season. It is not the BAR from 1999- they were forbidden to run two cars in different livery (one should have been red and white and one blue and yellow). It was the red one that I can remember.

Paul Stoddart (wanted to come back with Minardi European Limited or so) said in 2007 that from all the guys who wanna be a part of F1, he would be the only one with 'real' cars. In the same article it was said that those would be the PS04B. There has been a PS04B on a F1X2 event called "GP!live" in 2006:
    http://www.minardif1x2.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=765.

I think there were also 4 or 5 PS04Bs. Two to race, one replace and maybe one or two other.
  • read this:
    http://www.motorsport-total.com/f1/news/2006/03/Stoddarts_Bewerbung_fuer_2008_ist_bereits_eingereicht_06032807.html

"Auf die PS05-Chassis' der zweiten Saisonhälfte 2005 kann er übrigens nicht bauen, weil diese Gegenstand des Übernahmevertrags mit Red Bull waren, doch die Modelle des Typs PS04B liegen nach wie vor in seinem Besitz."

    =>english
"Stoddart is not able to use the PS05 from the late 2005 season, because they were part of the contarct with Red Bull. But the Cars of the type PS04B still belong to him".

The Super Aguri -Equipment etc. was bought by german company Formtech http://www.formtech-gmbh.de/upload/Artikel_Formtech_Straubinger_Zeitung_080731.pdf so they have the SA05/PS04A/A23 except for one.

P.S.: Thought I heard that the money for all the sold cars was around 10-15 Mio € oder $.

Will have a look if I can find more articles.

  • unfortunatley it has been a while when they sold the cars so I deleted my cache of the browser several times since then.

What I can tell you is that it was (as far as I know) an annual auction.

I will post everything I may find about it, we'll see.

OK - thanks :) Maybe anybody else knows more about the Minardis..and how knows....maybe there will be an ex Minardi driver becoming World champion this year...I think his chances aren that bad :)
  • If you count the old Minardi F1x2 (2 seaters) as Minardis, I just read Robert Doornbos will be driving one at Bavaria City Racing in Rotterdam next Sunday.
