  • .....the long Interlagos weekend......
Well Mark needs himself to come first, and Seb second. MW=263 CV=249 FA=261
If Seb lets Alonso through on the last lap (for second) then Alonso wins by 1 point.
If Seb comes first (231 +25 = 256Pts) Webber Second (238+18=256 Pts) and Alonso comes 5th (246+10=256 Pts) its a 3 way tie!

In my opinion, even though it looks like Ferdy, the fav is still Mark.
Mind: in Abu Dhabi, unless mechanical failures happen, or unless they get crazy, it should be an easy Red Bull 1-2. And this time, with Mark in front. Little Seb is out, he cannot take 25 points out of 50 from Ferdy.
Ferdy will get both times to the finish line, and, at least in Interlagos, he should finish ahead of Hamilton.
The only wise thing Horner can do, is to order Seb to let Mark through in the first few laps in Abu Dhabi, and protect his shoulders. If Ferdy gets third (but he may have engine problems, and Clewlis may pass him), it would be Ferdy 246-Mark 245, and then it will be all or nothing in Interlagos, with Mark having a new engine and just having to arrive before Ferdy.
But imagine this scenario: Ferdy gets out in Abu Dhabi. At that point, Seb would be back into the game and would definitely pass Mark (Mark could not risk a collision), and it would become: Mark 238, Seb and Ferdy 231, with both Seb and Ferdy just having to win in Interlagos to get one win more than Mark and be champion. Imagine what could happen!!!!!! And imagine Clewlis managing to stay ahead of Mark, it would be Mark 235, Seb and Ferdy 231, Clewlis 228!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talking about who deserves the title, Lease, I agree that Mark, after a nearly perfect year, showed his pressure and tension just at the wrongest possible moment, when he could have just sat in an easy 2nd and waited for the events (he would have later won and closed the championship!!!). But, on the other end, does Seb deserve it after all the screw-up he made (with Mark in Turkey, with Button in Spa.....)? And does Clewlis deserve it, after all the mistakes he made? And does Ferdy deserve it? He's been perfect from Hockenheim on, but in the first part of the season he was quite dull, if you remember!
Then, that Ferdy and Clewlis are superchampions, Seb will be, while Mark is just a good driver having his year of grace, like Irvine and Frentzen in 1999, Coulthard in 2001, Montoya in 2003, Massa in 2008 and Button in 2009, is totally another story.......

This press release on the RB site is interesting:
    Nuova in Formula Uno
The new Scuderia Toro Rosso will soon be fighting for world championship points in Formula 1. The team boss is Austrian.
Starting March 12, 2006, Formula 1 fans will be getting a taste of Red Bull in Italian: in Bahrain the new Scuderia Toro Rosso is heading into its first season as the second team owned by the Red Bull company.
The decision to take over the former Minardi team came at Spa during the Belgian Grand Prix, making the real birthday of the new Scuderia November 1, 2005. On that date the takeover became official and at the same time the first personnel decision was made: 49-year-old Austrian Franz Tost will spearhead the team.
Tost has lots of motorsport experience and Formula 1 know-how to contribute to the new team: he was formerly a driver for Formula Ford and Formula 3 and, among his other jobs, manager at the Walter Lechner Racing School before moving in 1993 to the team of Willi Weber. He was the driving force behind Ralf Schumacher’s career in Japan, advancing with his protégé to Formula 1. Since June 2000 Tost has been track operation manager at BMW Motorsport.
In accordance with the regulations, the Scuderia Toro Rosso operates completely independently of Red Bull Racing and is also in a somewhat different position: it sees itself as a rookie team that will primarily provide opportunities for the up-and-coming talent from the Red Bull Junior Team to rise into the ranks of Formula 1. The question of the 2006 cockpit occupants for the team based at Faenza, Italy is still open as is the name of the tire supplier. The Scuderia Toro Rosso’s cars are powered by a Cosworth V10 engine.

  • Misano - Day 2
    From Faenza:
    TWO INTO ONE

MISANO, ITALY, February 4, 2005 – Difficult weather and track conditions at the Autodromo Santamonica forced Minardi F1 Team personnel to reduce this week’s planned two-day test at the Adriatic circuit to just a single day.  Ice and snow in the run-off areas had largely dispersed by this morning, allowing the team to run a shortened, but still productive, technical programme with a pair of Minardi Cosworth PS04B chassis for drivers Christijan Albers, Chanoch Nissany and Nicolas Kiesa.  The three men were on differing programmes, Kiesa’s task being to carry out set-up work on Chassis 03 and assess revised control software, while Nissany, having his first session with the team since being announced as official Minardi test driver for 2005, was scheduled to continue his Formula One acclimatisation programme.  By comparison, Albers spent much of the day carrying out extended runs in Chassis 04, focusing on set-up and carrying out race simulation work.  The team hopes to conduct at least one further test before leaving for Australia and the first Formula One race of 2005.

NICOLAS KIESA                           Best lap: 1 min 20.400 secs                        Total laps: 10
“I was first out on track this morning, the plan being to carry out two timed runs in order to clock up a bit of additional mileage and to check some revised chassis software.  The track conditions were very poor initially, with a lot of dust and dirt on the surface, but even so, we came up with a configuration for the brakes and the differential that inspired confidence.  As a result, I feel I was able to deliver some useful feedback to the engineers, and I’m pleased with that.  I hope to be able to test again for the team and to continue the useful work that we’ve been doing.”

CHANOCH NISSANY                   Best lap: 1 min 25.380 secs                        Total laps:  6
“It has not been a normal testing day, as the track surface was very slippery and the conditions were pretty difficult.  Even so, you can learn from such challenging circumstances, and I know I have discovered some things today that will be useful in the future.”

CHRISTIJAN ALBERS                 Best lap: 1 min 14.270 secs                        Total laps: 57
“Clearly, the conditions were not good today, with water running across the track surface in places.  Even so, I’m satisfied with the work we’ve done and feel as though, in combination with the engineers, we’ve made some real progress developing a chassis set-up that is effective and with which I feel comfortable.  It has not been an easy test, by any means, but we have taken some useful steps towards our goal of being prepared for the first Grand Prix of the season, in Australia, in just over four weeks’ time.”

MASSIMO RIVOLA, Sporting Director and Team Manager
“It’s difficult to be particularly happy with this test, as we lost the whole of yesterday because of the weather, and although the situation improved and we were able to run today, the conditions were still very tricky.  Nicolas was first out, just for a short run, and although he had to contend with a very slippery track, he did his usual mature job.  Chanoch didn’t have a particularly good day, experiencing a couple of non-damaging spins and generally struggling with the conditions, but it all adds to his growing bank of F1 experience.  Christijan again did a very good job, carrying out some longer runs.  His lap times were consistent during the stints, indicating his physical condition is good.  He is definitely fully immersed in the job of being an F1 driver, and the team is happy with both his approach and his attitude to the job.”

Hot off the press' from Faenza

    WEATHER  AFFECTS MISANO TEST

MISANO, ITALY, January 18, 2005 – Foggy conditions accompanied by occasional snow flurries greeted Minardi Cosworth team members as they arrived at the Autodromo Santamonica for the opening day of a scheduled three-day test.  As a result, there was little opportunity for any meaningful running during the morning, but with conditions improving in the afternoon, drivers Christijan Albers and Nicky Pastorelli remained hopeful of completing their respective programmes.  Albers was first out, at the wheel of a Minardi Cosworth PS04B chassis.  He completed a total of 57 laps before a hydraulic problem with the car brought his session to a premature conclusion.  With light fading rapidly, Minardi technical staff were unable to complete the necessary repairs in the time available, and the team therefore decided to postpone Pastorelli’s test until Wednesday morning.  Israeli driver, Chanoch Nissany, will join Albers and Pastorelli at the Misano circuit tomorrow.

CHRISTIJAN ALBERS                     Best lap: 1 min 14.490 secs             Total laps: 57
“The big change for me at this test compared with my last time here at Misano, in November, is that now I know I am going to be a Minardi race driver in 2005, and it feels great.  I also know the team a lot better, as I have been spending a lot of time in Faenza training and preparing myself physically and mentally for the season ahead.  Today we did some useful work and we have discovered a little bit more about the car.  We struggled a little with the initial set-up, but the track and weather conditions were not great.  I’m confident we’ll make good progress as the test goes on.  As usual, the team has done a great job today and the guys have put in maximum effort.  The atmosphere is really good, and I feel right at home.”

MASSIMO RIVOLA, Sporting Director and Team Manager
“We lost time this morning because of the adverse weather conditions, but even so, once Christijan took to the track, he quickly demonstrated his speed and consistency.  It’s also clear the training he has been doing since the last test, in November, is paying off and we are very pleased with his physical condition.  Unfortunately, a hydraulic problem with the car this afternoon meant we were not able to cover the scheduled distance, but all being well, Christijan should easily complete the remaining kilometres required to qualify for his Super licence tomorrow.  Regrettably, we didn’t have the opportunity to run Nicky this afternoon as planned, but he will be the first driver in the car in the morning.  Finally, our sincere thanks to the Bridgestone personnel, who are once again supporting us strongly at this test.  We were able to collect considerable useful data today regarding the 2005 car and tyres, and the initial results are certainly very interesting.”
