Just for the record, up until 1996:
    - The USA has nuked itself, the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, Christmas Island, Johnston Island, and Eniwetok Island 1,030 times (215 atmospherically). Plus two.
    - The USSR has nuked itself 715 times (213 atmospherically).
    - France has nuked Africa 210 times (50 atmospherically). They've also been dabling in the Pacific in recent times.
    - The UK has nuked Australia and Christmas Island (a crowd favourite) 45 times (21 atmospherically).
    - No one is certain exactly who China has been nuking, but they've done it 45 times as well (23 atmospherically).
    Thanks guys.
    What a happy statistic.
Just think; the good guys have deliberately spread nuclear fallout around the globe 286 times.
The bad guys have only managed to do it 233 times.
I was going to go into a thing about the people of Japan probably selfishly thinking that nuking was worse than building crashing, but it really doesn't matter, does it?
  • Monza - Friday practice
    SMOOTH START TO MONZA WEEKEND
MONZA, ITALY, September 2, 2005 – The opening day of the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza turned out to be a very satisfactory one for Minardi F1 Team drivers Christijan Albers and Robert Doornbos, and Friday tester, Enrico Toccacelo. Assisted by the knowledge gained and data accumulated during the recent Monza test, all three men quickly got to grips with the Formula One World Championship’s fastest circuit, and steadily reduced their laps times. The exemplary reliability of the team’s three cars also allowed the drivers to focus on developing a good chassis set-up to cope with the demands of the challenging Italian circuit, which are distinctly different from those posed by a number of the tracks visited recently by the Formula One teams.
ROBERT DOORNBOS Best lap: 1 min 24.233 secs Position: 22nd
“Back in Monza within a week – it’s great that we tested here for a full day, as we gathered so much data and know so much more about the car. For me, it was also a very good opportunity to get to know the guys even better. The circuit I already know from F3000, and in fact, I was spraying the champagne here last year when I met the Minardi team for the first time. We didn’t run too much today, as we have a new engine, and therefore also have to think about next weekend, in Spa. At the end of the day, though, we found a reasonable set-up, and we hope to continue the work tomorrow. The aim, as usual, will be to do a strong qualifying lap, and to have another good fight in the race.”
CHRISTIJAN ALBERS Best lap: 1 min 24.264 secs Position: 23rd
“We had a good morning session today, and in the afternoon, we found some things that we feel can be improved, so we will have to check the data and see what we can do for tomorrow. It was a shame that I ran a little bit wide at one of the corners on what should have been my quickest lap, and lost some time as a result. It’s only Friday, though, and tomorrow’s a much more important day.”
ENRICO TOCCACELO Best lap: 1 min 25.245 secs Position: 24th
“I’m quite satisfied with our performance today, especially considering the programme we were running. Unfortunately, I encountered quite a bit of traffic on my last run, when I should have been able to set my fastest lap. I think I lost a minimum of half a second when I encountered Barrichello in the second chicane. Anyway, we were able to do a good tyre comparison this afternoon, and I recorded a number of very consistent lap times. I think we have done a good job, which should help the guys with their work tomorrow.”
PAUL STODDART, Team Principal, Minardi Cosworth
“It has been a good start to the Monza weekend, and there is no doubt our two-day test here last week has helped the drivers and technical staff in terms of ‘homing in’ on a suitable chassis set-up for this very fast circuit. It was particularly satisfying that all three cars ran without any problems today, thus allowing the drivers to work through their technical programmes without interruption. It was also pleasing that Enrico ran for nearly 40 laps over the two sessions, and judging by his times, was definitely getting to grips with both the track and the Minardi Cosworth PS05. We now look forward to another productive day tomorrow.”

The Brothers Brother Charity from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is providing for the victims of Katrina. There web site is........................
    www.brothersbrother.org
A brief overview of the organization is below. My wife & I have donated to BBF in the past and we like the fact that the monies contributed actually provide relief for those who need it.
"BBF, a 47-year old Pittsburgh-based international charity, has provided over $1.5 billion of medical supplies, textbooks, food, seeds and other humanitarian supplies to people around the world in over 120 countries. With the help of gifts from the general public, corporations and the US government, in 2004 BBF sent product contributions totaling more than $226,000,000 (3,125,000 pounds) to those in need in 40 countries including Argentina, Ethiopia, Iraq, Poland and the United States.
Forbes Magazine, the national business periodical, listed Brother's Brother Foundation as the only charity to receive 100% or higher rating in a special issue,
2005 investment guide charity, Monday, December 13, 2004. The issue lists
200 charities, rating them on how efficiently they collect and distribute donations.
Brother's Brother Foundation received 100 % or higher rating in all three evaluating categories. The categories included charitable commitment, donor dependency and fundraising efficiency.
Donations to assist with shipping costs are greatly appreciated. Credit card donations can be made by calling Brother's Brother Foundation at 412-321-3160; checks should be made out to Brother's Brother Foundation and sent to:

  • Paul is at it again! Oz Jet is here...
Confirmed: OzJet will be a sponsor for Melbourne GP.
Other than Stoddart, the $70 Million for the lauch of the airline has come from a 'large dutch realestate compay'
Does that mean that Minardi will actually receive sponsorship money from OzJet?
...Mr Stoddart will formally launch the plans for his new airline at Adelaide Airport today.
South Australian Premier Mike Rann will attend the launch.
Mr Stoddart will arrive in Melbourne tomorrow.
The Minardi team will carry OzJet advertising in the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park on March 6.

Maybe it's a good chance to hire tech stuff for a bargain price, I hope Stoddie is aware.
  • GPWC Governing Principals, What's your view?
I thought this may be an interesting discussion.
The fact that we have a push for restricted testing, other cost controls that TOIT won’t adhere to, this list of principals may assist us in negotiating a better deal for whichever group the team decides to align with.
Links to the principals as laid out in the Pitpass.com story are below
    http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=23367
    http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=23368
    My initial thoughts…
There isn't anything that I can say causes me great concern. The items regarding cost controls are very positive. Also, the point that promotes support for smaller, independent teams is also positive.
One point regarding the aim to provide the fastest lap times of any sport is a little dangerous. I'm not sure that this is necessary.
I do like to the point of the driver being the main the differentiating factor.
Some of the general technology points are also linked to costs.
Is this a better deal for independents like Minardi? I think it’s a good start.
In terms of Minardi's best interests and the sport itself, what do you guys think?
