Minardi F1 always had good relations with Fondmetal Group S.p.A. and this link between [[MinardiGianCarlo Gian Carlo Minardi]]'s team and Fondmetal came through by the constant aid and shareholding of the late much beloved Gabriele Rumi. Fondmetal's history dates back to 1908 when [[RumiGabriele Gabriele Rumi]]'s grandfather used to own an iron foundry. Later on in the 70s Fondmetal ventured into aluminium and metal smelting. Fondmetal's battle horse is its world famous alloy wheel, however during its history it also ventured into cylinder heads, induction manifolds, and clutches.
In 1996, Gabriele Rumi bought into Minardi through an alliance with Flavio Briatore, an alliance that ended in 1998 when Flavio Briatore sold his Minardi share to the same [[RumiGabriele Gabriele Rumi]] who thus became a majority sharholder at Minardi. Through Rumi's efforts, Minardi engineers were allowed to use the Fondmetal Wind Tunnel under the supervision and help of Jean Claude Migeot. In 1999 Fondmetal obtained the rights to develop the Cosworth 10 cylinder engine. In the year 2000, Minardi used the now renamed Fondmetal engine of 730hp that weighted 128kg. However it was not a delightful year, the engine was weak and heavy and no points were scored throughout that season. When [[RumiGabriele Gabriele Rumi]] left our world in 2001, the alliance between [[MinardiGianCarlo Gian Carlo Minardi]] and Fondmetal ended.
All in all it was a nice alliance that saw Minardi making the best possible use of a gigantic Italian resource such as Fondmetal!
