Esteban didn't have enough experience for a superlicence, but Argentina pushed hard through sponsors, GP organisers and its national FIA branch. This together with the excellent relationship between Minardi, Bernie and Max (those were the days) did the trick. Esteban made it to Melbourne to the surprise of many sceptics, quickly showing he fully deserved his seat. Things were OK in Argentina the first couple of races, the kid was young and needed to learn. Some media outlets ridiculed the team, but Esteban was already famous among his fellow countrymen. April came, and with it Esteban's 21st birthday and the Argentine GP. We paid for the new Fangio to make it to F1, time for him to show us what he was made of. Why wait any longer? He was only 30 minutes away from his room, the one full of golden trophies and cups.
