The story of a wunderkind, wasted simply because of speed. It was a good moment to have Argentine drivers back in F1 in 1998, it didn't matter Esteban was so young. You think it's cruel when young gymnasts are forced to start training for international competitions before they hit their teens, when tennis players turn pro, rushed by parents who like seeing the dollars rolling in? You think this doesn't happen in F1? Here's the story of Esteban Tuero.

With his father being a former race car driver, Esteban started karting at the age of seven, moving to single seaters at 15. He was incredibly quick, piling up trophies in his parent's house (in the Caballito district) we got to know so well here in Argentina due to some TV commercials. No wonder he made the big jump and flew to Europe at the age of 17, landing a seat in Italian F2000. His performances soon revealed his talent, thrashing his rivals and getting a taste of F3 in the same year. From that point onwards however, things simply went too quick. Argentineans were so amazed by this fast success they thought the search for the new Fangio had come to an end. They thought that there was no time to waste, and that the time had come to launch his career in F1. Why bother in patiently building up his natural talents? F1 teams were more than interested in his services. [[MinardiGianCarlo Gian Carlo Minardi]] pipped Briatore in signing this youth promise, his legendary talent-spotting eye being faster than flamboyant Flav's. Pressure at this point was immense, with a teen Esteban trying his first [[Faenza]] car at only 18. In Italian F3, Tuero was impressive again. Why hang around there? Up we go to F3000, where Esteban had enough with finishing rather than scoring wins. But there was nothing wrong with the kid, the car was bad. One year in Formula Nippon? We were getting impatient down in South America! The needed cash was quickly found to put this kid where he deserved to be: In F1.

Esteban didn't have enough experience for a superlicence, but Argentina pushed hard through sponsors, GP organisers and its national FIA branch. This together with the excellent relationship between Minardi, Bernie and Max (those were the days) did the trick. Esteban made it to Melbourne to the surprise of many sceptics, quickly showing he fully deserved his seat. Things were OK in Argentina the first couple of races, the kid was young and needed to learn. Some media outlets ridiculed the team, but Esteban was already famous among his fellow countrymen. April came, and with it Esteban's 21st birthday and the Argentine GP. We paid for the new Fangio to make it to F1, time for him to show us what he was made of. Why wait any longer? He was only 30 minutes away from his room, the one full of golden trophies and cups. Crowds cheered for him when he was making a parade lap waving to the fans just [[http://www.supplementstoweightloss.com/ best weight loss]] behind Reutemann driving Fangio's Mercedes.

The race was a nightmare, with that famous unexpected pit stop where mechanics needed 45 sec to refuel and change tyres. He was distraught by a whole week of pressure and finally spun off. This was the beginning of the end for his F1 career. The media turned him from a superstar into a clown. He found himself caught in the middle between the official media fighting against the one backed by the opposition, who simply took Esteban apart. In a rebuilding year for Minardi, while [[RumiGabriele Rumi]]'s [[Fondmetal]] began to take a bigger interest in the team, the cars from [[Faenza]] were simply down on power and reliability and spent all year fighting against the Tyrells at the back end of the grid. At the end of the season Esteban however had done enough to deserve a second chance.

The restructured Minardi team looked forward to running him alongside [[GeneMarc Marc Gene]] in 1999, but in late January, after spending some time recuperating from his Suzuka injuries, just as he was about to test the new car for the first time, he made a shock announcement that he was retiring from F1. This took the entire F1 paddock by surprise, not least of all Minardi itself. No doubt the attacks by his home media and the tons of pressure harmed Tuero. In addition to that there were rumours that his manager stashed away some of the sponsorship money. Money vanished as quickly as it had flourished before, some minor sponsors went bankrupt, others silently left him. Only the bigger ones remained, Telecom Argentina even took legal actions against Minardi to recover the money they paid in advance for the 99 season. He decided he had enough and switched to local touring cars. He was offered to test CART and many other open wheelers again, but he is comfortable racing home, earning some money and being far away from the pressure of world media.

I left on my own: I wasn't rejected. I'm aware that during the first half of the season I was faster than Nakano, but in the second half there was a turnaround. The reason was that during race weekends everything was fine. But on Mondays I'd have breakfast alone, lunch alone, dinner alone and I'd go for a walk alone. And if I wanted to call a friend I spent 50 dollars. When I saw that the following year things were going to be the same, injecting large sums of cash into the team whilst at the end of the grid, I decided to return home. In my country I can have the same life that European drivers have in Formula 1: I drive, earn almost the same money and I can be with the people I love. Now it's TC2000. I want to be the best driver [[http://www.shoppharmacycounter.com/ weight loss supplements]] in the country and for that I need to be TC2000 champion. I believe this championship together with TC is the most prestigious and transcendent, but TC2000 looks more serious to me. I also want to be champion to think about different goals, such as returning to international motor racing. F1? I don't know, it's very difficult, maybe this will mean Touring cars. First I need to be Argentine Champion".

Another talent wasted by the thirst for quick success. Such a shame!
